Yurt Photo Following the completion of a course this summer attended by many senior state representatives, the National Association of State Foresters (NASF) issued the following memorandum giving Intent into Action: Organizational Leadership for the Command and General Staff equivalency for both S-420 and L-480.

Text of NASF Memorandum:

FROM: Bob Harrington, Chair NASF Forest Fire Protection Committee
SUBJECT: Equivalency for Intent into Action – Leadership for Command and General Staff Course
DATE: October 21, 2014

The NASF Forest Fire Protection Committee endorses the Intent into Action-Leadership for Command and General Staff course as equivalent to both of the NWCG courses: S-420 Command and General Staff and L-480 Organizational Leadership. Federal wildland fire agencies have given Intent into Action equivalency to both S-420 and L-480. The State Fire Chiefs, Managers and Forest Fire Supervisors also expressed support for the recognition of equivalency for Intent into Action. As stated in the NWCG Field Managers Course Guide, awarding course equivalency is an agency-specific responsibility. While individual states can recognize the course as equivalent this endorsement is intended to assist those states that requested NASF endorsement. Please contact Dan Smith, NASF Fire Director, at (208) 867-0908 if you have any questions.
