MCS Conducts Advanced Training for FEMA IMATs

As part of their initial training academy, 72 members from FEMA’s Incident Management Assistance Teams (IMATs) completed MCS’s Incident Leadership course (DHS: CA-010-PREV/NWCG: L-381). The participants are part of one Regional and two National IMATs formed by FEMA in recent months. MCS conducted the three Incident Leadership courses concurrently during the last week of June.

In addition, 24 members of the East and West National teams completed Organizational Leadership for the Command and General Staff (NWCG L-480/S-420) in mid-July. For this course, FEMA also invited 13 local and state cooperators from Washington, DC, and the state of Maryland’s Emergency Operations Centers to attend. The addition of experienced local and state government emergency managers was highly beneficial to the IMAT team members and provided numerous opportunities for cross-functional education and mentoring.

FEMA selected MCS’s programs – Incident Leadership and Organizational Leadership for the Command and General Staff – to complete the teams’  training requirements. The programs concluded a 13-week IMAT Academy. All courses were conducted at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, AL.
